Staff Review: The Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb

HobbThe Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb

Robin Hobb (aka Megan Lindholm) is in fine form, as per usual, with book one in the new Rain Wild Chronicles which takes us back to the world of the Liveships, where the dragon Tintaglia assists the last serpents to cocoon on the shores of the Rain Wild river.  Meanwhile back in Bingtown, traders daughter Alise devotes her life to the study of dragons, having resigned herself to spinsterhood.  Several years later, circumstances force the Rain Wilders to select a team of dragon keepers and hunters  – including young Rain Wilder Thymara – to assist the young dragons to move further up river into unknown territory, where they hope to find the lost Elderling city of Kelsingra.  Alise accompanies them as the chronicler of the journey, and representative of the absent Elderlings.  All I can say is, I hope Robin writes the second instalment quickly!
