Bear Grylls to visit

February 11, 2011

Celebrity outdoorsman Bear Grylls is taking a break from jumping into freezing-cold rivers to attend a pair of charity events here in New Zealand. The two events are being held to raise money for both the Wellington Children’s Hospital and victims of the Pike River mining disaster.

Back in November, a mining accident caused an explosion that killed 29 coal miners in New Zealand. Grylls is the latest in a line of celebrities to pay tribute to the workers and their families. The two charity events will be held at Auckland’s Skycity Convention Centre on March 2nd, and at Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre on March 3rd.

Organizer Jamie Templeton said there was a “correlation” between Grylls and the people affected by the disaster, as Grylls is “all about making it in any situation.” Templeton added, “He makes you realize that against all odds, and with the right attitude, anything is possible.”

Bear Grylls is also a published author, and the library holds copies of several of his books. Tararua District Libraries books by Bear Grylls
