Review: “Daughter of smoke and bone” by Laini Taylor

Award winning author Laini Taylor has written a beauty – the first in a trilogy. To be released in September, ‘Daughter of Smoke and Bone’ is a riveting story about a young art student called Karou living in Prague. She has been adopted by one of the leaders of the chimaera clan. Brimstone, also known as the Wishmonger, tasks Karou with travelling around the world collecting teeth from both the living and the dead in order to weave his magic with them. Karou lives between the two worlds – her art student human world and Elsewhere – the world of the chimaera.

This is a story of conflict between good and evil. The good reveal glimpses of evil, and the evil have touches of good. It is also a love story – a tale of Karou learning of another world – the world of the seraphim.

I don’t ordinarily read fantasy novels but I couldn’t put this one down. Highly recommended for teens and adults.
