Art Deco wonders

February 15, 2012

Napier is once again celebrating it’s art deco heritage with it’s annual celebrations  this week.

If you’re planning on attending – in period dress of course –  or are  just interested,  we have several interesting   art deco books and also some that might help you with costuming.

One book I particularly like is “1000 hats” by Norma Shephard, which lavishly illustrates millinery through the ages. Hopefully, hats will make a resurgence … I think they are great!

Another excellent volume is “Art deco : the golden age of graphic art & illustration” by Michael Robinson & Rosalind Ormiston.  It explores the movement as a whole, as well as fashion & advertising in that period. Other forms of art deco are also featured, such as jewellery and sculptures.

Of course, art deco week is also a boon for train enthusiasts, with many trips on offer.  We have a great many rail books, and also stock several train magazines.
