Christchurch : 22/2

February 22, 2012

Today is the first anniversary of the 22/2/11 earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand.

As smaller quakes continue, people try to get on with their lives, and the city continues to clear the rubble, there have been a proliferation of books about this event. Most of them are quite poignant accounts of the city or of the efforts during the quake.

One of the more recent publications is ‘Christchurch heritage: a celebration of lost buildings & streetscapes’ by Bruce Ansley, and  The Press. It features many buildings now irreparably damaged or completely destroyed.

I think it’s safe to say that no New Zealander alive during these times will ever forget what happened to the people of Canterbury,  and city of Christchurch in 2010 and 2011.

Kia kaha.
