New road rules – is your insurance up to date?

March 9, 2012

The 2 new give way road rules come into effect on Sunday March 25th at 5am.

On the face of it, the pending changes seem quite simple. But if, like me, you’ve been a driver for decades and have come to that stage of life where the memory isn’t all that it used to be, you may be a little concerned about the upcoming changes!  Don’t panic –  there is plenty of information available.

If I understand correctly, the new rules means that if you are turning right, you give way to all other vehicles except if road signs or traffic signals indicate otherwise. There is NO change to the current system at roundabouts. However, don’t take my word for it. Read the information at NZ Transport Agency which explains it all fully, along with graphic examples.

The following is a really good test – you might be surprised at your results! It might pay to make sure your car insurance is up to date if you get less than 90%. New road rules quiz

If you live in Tararua district, REAP are holding free public presentations to help you get to grips with the changes. No registration required, just turn up. The venues and dates are:

Wed 14 March 10-11am Norsewood War Memorial Hall

Mon 19 March 5.15 to 6.15 pm  Dannevirke REAP rooms (Gordon St West)

Wed 21 March 1.30 – 2.30 pm Woodville Old Folks Hall

Let’s hope that from March 25th, all Kiwi drivers give each other a little extra time and consideration at intersections huh.
