LMAO, thanks Jenny Lawson!

“Let’s pretend this never happened” by Jenny Lawson  (2012, HarperCollins)

by Natalie Raynel

This is the funniest (non-fiction) book I’ve ever read. And that’s saying a lot because I don’t usally read non-fiction , so the fact I even picked this one up let alone finished it, is a compliment to the author.

Let's pretend this never happened

Hamlet von Schnitzel

Considering that the subject matter consists of traumatic events that happened in her childhood (like falling inside a deer carcass – yes, inside its abdominal cavity) and getting her arm stuck inside a cow, plus dire things that occurred in her adult life such as getting arthritis, pet deaths, and thinking her boyfriend was about to murder her, it really shouldn’t be that funny. But it SO is.

Husband to this unique and vibrant woman is Victor, a gem of a man I think, as you will discover when you read it … how many men would put up with a wife who abandons him in the dark with a rattlesnake, is responsible for getting him body searched at the airport thanks to a stuffed crocodile, and all sorts of other interesting events.

Thanks to Jennys’ unique perspective on life – which those of us with some form of anxiety disorder can really relate to – and some witty turns of phrase, I found this book absolutely hilarious. If you’re easily offended by profanity, I would avoid this book, but otherwise, highly recommended. I can’t wait for the next volume of further adventures in the bloggess’ life. (That’s a hint Jenny, if you’re reading this).
