Now that’s what I call a Scotsman!

February 25, 2013

Recently we’ve acquired books by Hannah Howell and Julianne MacLean that feature strapping specimens of Scottish manhood as main characters.  A step up from your standard Mills & Boon, these books are mostly historical fiction with a touch of romance and a smidge of eroticism.  Certainly enough to get your tartan in a tangle!

The Highlander series by Julianne McLean starts with ‘Captured by the Highlander’ : Lady Amelia Templeton would rather die than surrender to a man like Duncan MacLean. He is the fiercest warrior of his clan–her people’s sworn enemy–and tonight he is standing over her bed. Eyes blazing, muscles taut, and battle-axe gleaming, MacLean has come to kill Amelia’s fiance. But once he sees the lovely, innocent Amelia, he decides to take her instead… Stealing the young bride-to-be is the perfect revenge against the man who murdered Duncan’s one true love. But Lady Amelia turns out to be more than a pawn of vengeance and war. This brave, beautiful woman touches something deep in Duncan’s soul that is even more powerful than a warrior’s fury. But when Amelia begins to fall in love with her captor–and surrenders in his arms–the real battle begins…”–

heroHannah Howell has written over 20 books set in the Highlands and featuring all sorts of exciting storylines.  Her most recent is a collation of shorter stories, Highland Hero: Prepare to meet four heroes as captivating as the Highlands. A dashing laird with an appetite for more than a Scottish beauty’s culinary skills…a proud lord on a journey of rescue and desire…a sensual warrior at the centre of one woman’s dreams…and a handsome but sombre Scot whose joy is reawakened by true love. These passionate romances will thrill you, seduce you, and warm your heart…

Monica McCarty and her Highland Guard series is also exciting. The sixth novel ‘The recruit’ is out now and the seventh due to be published this year. “Fiery, aggressive, and bold, Kenneth Sutherland is a true champion – skilled with any weapon and driven to win. Now Kenneth is ready for his greatest challenge: joining Robert the Bruce’s secret army to fight among the elite. Kenneth’s best chance to attain that honor is by winning the Highland Games. Focused and prepared for victory, he is caught off guard by a lovely wisp of a woman – and a stolen moment of wicked seduction. Her innocent arousal and her shameless hunger fire his blood. He will win his place in the guard – and in Mary of Mar’s bed.”
