Just the thing for a dreary winter day (or any day) is the 2012 science fiction movie ‘Looper’ starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Emily Blunt, and written and directed by Rian Johnson.I love a good story in any form including movies, which are simply stories translated to film, and Looper is a very good story. From a sedate beginning where we are introduced to the vagaries of how the future might be when time travel is invented, we are shocked by interspersals of short sharp violence, and yet still compelled to feel for Joe, the lead character. The action then ramps up, and although not edge-of-the-seat stuff, was enough to quash any thoughts of surfing on the net while half-watching. Especially when future Joe (Bruce Willis) does what he does – heart-wrenching!

When the creators skilfully wove in the next strand of the story, then it became edge-of-the-seat material. I was so caught up in the action, I didn’t have time to second-guess the ending, and then ending was what elevated the movie from pretty good to great. 4.5/5 stars – a movie I am recommending to all my friends, and every borrower I chat to at the library.
