Review: A week in winter / Maeve Binchy

June 28, 2013

Click for catalogueChicky had left Ireland with her lover many years ago, for a new life in America. Things hadn’t worked out, but she had stayed and made the best of it. Each year she went back to Ireland for a visit but never let on to her family how things had turned out. Now she has returned to Ireland and bought the old Stone House, set high on cliffs on the west coast of Ireland overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. She had got the much needed maintenance done on it and turned it into a Hotel.

It is opening week. Each chapter tells the story of one of the people, visitors and staff alike, who are there at Stone Cottage.  As each chapter tells a characters life story up to this point, it is fast moving.

This is Maeve Binchy’s last novel as she passed away in July 2012. She wanted to be remembered as a reasonable story teller and I’m sure her many readers around the globe would agree she passed that test.
