Pie, anyone?

July 31, 2013

Like many New Zealanders, I enjoy the occasional pie. Well okay, more than occasional.  Preferably meat, but a fruit pie has its place too, especially with ice cream.  If you also enjoy the odd pie, check out the 2013 Pie Award winners for the best one’s in the country.

The Supreme Award went to David Liem of Greenland Bakery & Café, Botany, for his mince & cheese pie.  Sadly, there were no winners in Tararua, although Jacksons Bakery & Café of Havelock North, Hawke’s Bay, was in the top 10 for several categories if you fancy a road trip.

If you’d like to try your own hand at some pie baking, we have some books to help (of course).

click for catalogueOne of the latest arrivals is “Pie.ography : where pie meets biography” by Jo Packham, which includes recipes for both savory and sweet pies. My taste buds are already tingling in anticipation!
