How do I use the free library wifi?

January 2, 2014

Tararua District Library provides free wireless network (internet access) to everyone, at each of our four libraries : Dannevirke, Woodville, Pahiatua, Eketahuna.  The wifi signal is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week – it doesn’t matter if we’re open or not.  You don’t have to be a library member, as there is no password to access it, and it offers unlimited download.

If you’re not particularly confident on your device, it can be a bit scary accessing it the first time. First, find the Settings on your device.  Check that you have the wifi turned on.  When you are within range (about 60 metres), you should see the name of the library appear in the list of nearby wifi signals, in the settings. For example, Dannevirke Library.  Depending on your device, you might then have to click on Connect or it may just connect automatically.  The key thing is, because this is provided through Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa, the first thing you MUST do (each time) is open your internet browser (like Internet Explorer, Firefox or Chrome) and click on Agree on the default APNK homepage that appears. And you’re all ready to start surfing the net now, or downloading things.

Next time you’re within range, your device will automatically connect to the library wifi, but you will still have to open your internet browser and click Agree before continuing.

If you find this not working, try restarting your device and trying again.  Or if you’re really stuck, ask a librarian for help next time you’re in, as we’re more than happy to help.
