‘East Coast Colour’ by Muriel Cowan

August 14, 2014

Another local entry in our poetry competition:

The sky;

A smoky rose suffusion.

Fading to water melon pink.

Smudged horizon.

Sheeted turquoise sea.

And the afterglow that lingers of

a bossy West Coast sunset

Delaying the appearance

of the evening star

Until Mother Moon arises and chases away

That persistent, gaudy, Westie.

And then gathers up sister star

and suspends her left hand down

into a fashionable midnight blue sky.
