Heroes of Olympus – Teen series
“The Mark of Athena” is the third in the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan, who is great at telling stories about the Greek and Roman gods and mixing them up. I like these books as much as I enjoyed the Harry Potter series.
Greek and Roman demigods have to cooperate in order to defeat the giants released by the Earth Mother, Gaea. Then they have to sail together to the ancient land to find the Doors of Death.
The characters undertake a mission to prevent the destruction of Rome, the awakening of Gaea and the end of the world. At the same time they help Annabeth to recover an ancient statue of Athena stolen from the Parthenon. Along the way they meet Nemesis, Bacchus, Phorcys, Aphrodite and Hercules.
I really liked this book because Annabeth plays a bigger role. I have always liked her character but mostly the books are about Percy however in this book Annabeth plays a bigger part. I like her because she is a girl and is smart and brave. In this book Leo and Annabeth tell the story and in this way we get to know these characters better. I also like Piper as a character.
Throughout the book there is both humour and terror and this makes the book really difficult to put down.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the earlier Percy Jackson books or wants a change from Harry Potter.
