Happy Adult Learners’ Week / He Tangata Matauranga everyone!

September 7, 2015

adult learners logoSeptember 7 to 13 is the week that organisations around New Zealand, like REAP, ACE and Literacy Aotearoa, celebrate the learning efforts of their students, as they engage in lifelong learning.

Originally a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) initiative, it has also become a vehicle for encouraging anyone in the wider community to consider adult education, whether it be learning to adjust to life in a new country, re-training to find employment, adjusting to life after prison, acquiring parenting skills or just getting out and doing an activity to make life better and meet people.

Congratulations to everyone who has learnt a new skill, developed a new ability and stepped outside their comfort zone this past year!  So, what’s on around the district?  See the brochure here or as below, on Monday and Wednesday there will be various kiosks on display within Dannevirke Library that may interest you. Or come along to the poetry workshop.

International Literacy Day (ILD) in Aotearoa New Zealand falls within Adult Learners’ Week on Tuesday 8 September, which is when we are holding our Library Adult Trivia Quiz at 7pm.
