How do I access Tararua District Library ebooks and eaudio?

January 22, 2016

If you are a library member, then you can freely download e-books or e-audio to your compatible device.  Brochures are available at our branches, and if you have problems, you can bring your device in and we will do our best to help you get started.

E-books and e-Audio are available via ePukapuka (Libby app) and/or BorrowBox app

For smartphones or tablets:

Download the Libby app and/or BorrowBox app from either the android or apple store.

Open the app – use the search to find Tararua.  Log in to use the app with your username (library card number on the back of your card) and your usual password.  Once logged in, you can download up to 20 books at a time.  There are no costs involved.

Titles do expire – depending on the publisher, the eBook can be accessed anywhere from 26 times, to anytime within a two year period. So if you see something you want to read, we recommend you read it while the title is still available on the site.

Can you renew?  yes

Can you place a hold? yes, and it’s free. You will receive notifications when it’s available. You can also delay receiving the hold.

What if you don’t know your passcode

As long as we have your email address, you can find out by going to our catalogue tararua.kotui.org.nz and clicking log in on the top right. Click on Forgotten passcode. Enter your membership, and the system will email you a link to reset the passcode.  If that doesn’t work, please email library@tararuadc.govt.nz for further assistance, or ask at your local library.

What if I get a new library card?

If you have to replace your library card (therefore new number),  go to Manage Cards > Add Card in Libby. Leave your old card there, activated, if you wish so that you can still access any holds or shelf checkouts you currently have on it.

You can also add other libraries cards, if you also belong to other libraries that offer these apps.

Filtering your search in Libby

Libby has a filtering system on the Shelf and Timeline to streamline how readers sort and filter loans, holds, tags, and reading activity, which is also available when browsing and searching your library’s catalog. It replaces the previous Preferences and Refine options and appears on your library’s home screen, the search screen, lists, search results, and catalog guides.

To use the new filtering system, tap  to sort and filter titles from your library’s home screen (  ), the search screen (  ), lists, catalog guides, or search results. Example sort and filter options include format, audience, language, availability, popularity, and date added to the collection.  Note: You can now find the subjects filter from the new  button.

  • Users can pin their favorite sort and filter options.
    • Once a user pins a sort or filter, it is automatically applied to all lists, catalog guides, and search results. For example, parents can pin the “Juvenile” or “Young Adult” audience filters for young readers, or users can pin the “available now” filter to always see content that is immediately ready to borrow.
    • Preferences your users previously set are automatically converted into pinned sorts and filters.
    • Pinned sorts and filters appear on the library home screen for easy access.

For dedicated e-reader (excluding Kindle) or PC:

Make sure you have Adobe Digital Editions downloaded.  If you have an ereader or laptop, you can still access our ebooks.

  1. Go to tararua.kotui.org.nz
  2. Scroll down the home page and click Libby logo (it will take you to the overdrive website).
  3. Sign In using your library card number and password.
  4. If your ereader has wifi capability, you can download over that. Otherwise, connect your ereader to your PC to download.
  • If you have an Amazon Fire tablet (new Kindle), you can use Libby ebooks using the Overdrive app.  See the help page.
